Kiltmaking
A kilt starts with just three measurements: waist, hip and length. Generally, a kilt requires eight yards of single width tartan or four yards of double width fabric. Kilts are pleated to the sett (meaning the tartan pattern is reproduced in the pleats) or to the stripe (meaning each pleat will have the same stripe).
Kilt prices:
$375.00 USD for a box-pleated kilt (tartan not included) ** price may vary**
$450.00 USD for a knife-pleated kilt (tartan not included) ** price may vary**
Knife pleated kilt
The tartan is Isle of Skye from Lochcarron Mills. A knife-pleated kilt typically uses about eight yards of tartan. The pleats are narrower than those of a box-pleat kilt.
Box-pleated Kilt
The tartan is Nicolson from House of Edgar. A box-pleated kilt uses less fabric (about four yards) and isn’t as heavy as a knife-pleated kilt.
Kingussie
The tartan is of the 1783 Collection of House of Edgar. It’s the “Drover”. This is a unique kilt style. The pleats are stitched like a box pleat, and pressed like a knife pleat.. but in the middle half are pressed the other direction.
